Hop on Over to Fun Town

I was driving home recently when I found myself thinking about a woman I know pretty well.

Me. ❤️ Yet, not current me. Trip me. ❤️

The version of me that has something on the calendar. The version of me that's counting down the days to her next escapade. The version of me that knows an adventure is coming. 💃🏻

And what I've learned to be true is… this girl is different. Not dramatically different. Not a whole new person. Just a bit lighter. More easily excited. More present in the moment. More willing to say yes without thinking about the long list of to-do's.

The version of me with a trip on the books is a bit better at, well… life. She's more patient. More optimistic. More playful. More willing to put down her phone and go do something. She smiles more.

I have absolutely no scientific evidence to support this. But I stand by it completely.

And once I noticed it in myself, I started seeing it everywhere — when the friend who books her flight races to the group chat with approximately 7 emojis. When the coworker finally hits "reserve now" and has a permanent smile for the rest of the week. The look in a person's eye when they finally hop the fence to fun town and say, "NOW IS the time. I'm doing it." 🥳

Because not only are they scheduling their vacation — they are also elevating their time until the vacation begins.

Anticipation is one of life's greatest joys. Which means our Paris trip isn't just six days. It's six days plus the X amount of days before it. The excitement. The countdown. The texts with your friends. The outfit decisions. The occasional panic that you've forgotten something important.

"With Abroad on Purpose, there was always a calm sense that things were handled."

A trip always reminds us that there is more ahead than work, errands, obligations, and laundry. Always laundry. 😩

The truth is, there is never a perfect time. The calendar won't magically clear. Which means waiting for the perfect moment is often another way of saying no.

Most of us don't need more information. We need more courage. Not heroic courage. Just enough courage to say yes before we talk ourselves out of it. That's usually where the good stuff lives. 💃🏻

There is a version of you that takes the trip. And I can attest — she's having a wonderful time. ✨

Hop that fence to fun town. It's pretty delightful over here, Sydney
